Sandwich recipes

When it comes to sandwiches you can fill them with whatever you fancy as the time, from meats to cheese to hot or cold, it all just depends on what you want or like. You might think why have we got a page for sandwich recipes then, well on this page we will give you some tips on making the perfect traditional sandwich but also on some not so traditional ones, some from other countries and some sandwiches with a twist! You might fancy trying them or you might not!

Cheese sandwiches

In our cheese sandwiches range you can choose from the basic cheese sandwich to cheese alongside something else. The great thing about a cheese sandwich is that it doesn't take long to do and they are the perfect sandwich to have in a packed lunch because they stay just as tasty, you can also make them different by using different kinds of cheese.

  • Cheese and Ham people all over the world love cheese and sandwiches and you can pretty much guarantee where ever you go whether it is Spain or India you will be able to get a ham and cheese sandwich. All you need is some thin sliced cheddar cheese and a few slices of fresh or packet ham; you can also add some lettuce leaves and some salad in there too.
  • Cheese and Onion another very popular choice and extremely easy to make, all you need is two slices of bread, cheddar cheese and half an onion. You can either have slices of onion or you might choose to grate your cheese and then cut the onion into smaller pieces mixing them together and then putting them on the bread.
  • Cheese and pickle a great traditional British sandwich, cheddar cheese and Branston pickle, makes a great snack, you can have pickle instead of onion if you aren't a fan onion. Cheese and Branston Pickle goes great with white bread.

    Egg sandwiches

    How do you like your eggs? You can pick how to have your egg sandwich whether it's with a fried egg, boiled egg or a pre-made egg filling spread, eggs give you the largest sandwich recipes.

  • Egg Mayonnaise probably the most popular kind of egg sandwich, all you have to do is boil an egg, cut the egg up into smaller pieces in a separate bowl, when you have cut them into small enough pieces that will fit easily between two slices of bread, add mayonnaise in the bowl mix it will the egg and then spread it onto your bread.
  • Fried egg and bacon sandwich this isn't the lowest calorie option to have, so if you're trying to be healthy or on a diet then give this one a miss. All you have to do is fry an egg and cook some bacon, slide them onto a slice of bread and you're done, you could even toast the bread. Due to this being a filling sandwich you should really serve them as a small meal rather than as a snack.

    Avocado chicken club sandwich

    This is a very American sandwich and if you have ever been to America or ordered one somewhere else you will know why, it is piled high with loads of great flavours. It's made up of Parma ham, avocado, lettuce leaves and sauces of your choice! Here's how you make it and what you will need;

    Ingredients

  • 12 slices of grain bread
  • 2 tablespoons of pumpkin seeds & toasted pepper
  • 1 orange (peeled and chopped)
  • 1 avocado
  • 1 tablespoon lime
  • 4 slices Parma ham, cut into strips
  • 20g alfalfa sprouts
  • A bunch of watercress
  • 4 oz cooked chicken breast (remove skin and slice)
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 4oz iceberg lettuce

    How to make it:

    1. Get 4 of the slices of bread and spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise on them, then put the lettuce and chicken breast on.
    2. Get a pan and dry fry the strips of Parma ham for 1-2 minutes until they crisp, then out them on top of the chicken and add some pepper.
    3. Spread the remaining mayonnaise onto the other 4 slices of bread and place them onto of the chicken and ham.
    4. Then mash the avocado with the lime juice and add to the sandwiches (the best way to do this is using a spoon). Finish off with the chopped orange, watercress, alfalfa and pumpkin seeds, get your remaining slices of bread and put them on top.
    5. Press down gently and slice into quarters to make them easier to eat, you can add a side salad with them or even some tortilla chips.

    Aubergine and Red Pepper Parmesan

    This makes a delicious meal, made up of gorgeous goats cheese and roasted vegetables, you can make them as a nice meal at lunch time or at tea time with fries or a jacket potato and salad, if you have them for lunch you could add a small side salad or some tortilla chips. Here what you will need and how to make them;

    Ingredients;

  • 1 French stick
  • 60g goats cheese (soft)
  • 30g tapenade
  • 4 tablespoons fresh grated parmesan
  • 1 sliced red pepper
  • 1 aubergine cut into strips
  • Salt and grounded pepper

    How to make them;

    1. Turn on the grill to heat up whilst you prepare, put your aubergine and red pepper on a tray, season with salt and pepper and out under the grill for up to 10 minutes until browned.
    2. Cut the French stick in half lengthways, spread one side with goat's cheese and then pour on the tapenade. Then get your cook pepper strips and aubergine, place them on top and add the parmesan and put on the top layer of your French stick.
    3. You can then cut them into 4 and add your chosen garnish.

    Remeber a sanwich is not always a healthy option, sandwiches that contain high fat ingredients such as fatty dressings can be very high in calories.
